Trucking industry starving for drivers

The megas screaming driver shortage is like McClown's screaming there's a shortage of burger flippers. In reality, the only thing there's a shortage of is any *real* incentive for anyone to stay at any of these crap holes for more than 6 months.

And Remember:

BE THE BEER!

 

The shortage is experienced drivers.
The driver mills haven't slowed down one bit. The non self insured companies can't/won't take the insurance hit and toss a n00b in a truck and hope they don't wreck it.

Other factors like Amazon have shifted drivers from other fleets and created more disposable driver jobs ( butts in seats ). Driver pay has been stagnant along with freight rates.

 

The truth is that there is a shortage of people willing to be gone from home for weeks on end, away from family, and putting up with all the crap we put up with in this industry. 90% of people that start Trucking, especially OTR, give up after just a few months.

 

I'll believe there's a driver shortage the day CR England pays company driver noobs $1 a mile fresh out of school.

 

There are carriers and certain schools that are licensed to train and give the DMV driver's test at their facilities. In the past, there have also been DMV employees arrested for taking bribes and issuing a CDL to unqualified drivers without taking the test at all. A few years ago in California, several driving school owners and a few DMV employees got caught doing this and they all went to jail. Almost 2,000 CDL's were invalidated overnight. Organized crime is still alive and well in the trucking industry.

 

Ha, then you're a believer, cuz they're already paying $1.05 plus FSC and will sell you a truck for the low low price of $1500.00 per week for 5 years.

 

Driver shortage is similar to the 'Whack-a-Mole' game.
A dozen drivers leave a trucking company, but re-appear at another trucking company.

 

That's true for men between the ages of 20 and 40. But older men don't mind being away as much, which is why the average age of drivers in the US is around 55. At 61, I can put up with a lot of crap not to be sitting around the house looking at my wife all day.
