What's up guys? Pretty decent week for me, nice little mix of the road and some local work to end the week. Started out Monday empty and headed up towards Jax and grabbed iron ore and toted that up to New Johnsonville TN, weather was crappy Tuesday morning, load was heavy to the drivers side so I had to get creative, it finally slid out but that stuff is generally wet so there was quite a bit to shovel and sweep, wasn't pumped about that.

Bounced to Linden TN for a load of rock and brought that back to central Florida, interesting part of that load was Hwy 13 in TN between Linden and Waynesboro, what an experience. Pretty decent mountain grades, and some of the worst curves(blind) that I've ever encountered. Emptied that Wednesday and headed home for the evening.

Worked local Thursday and today which was nice, busy, but nice. Pre loaded now with fertilizer to go south on Monday morning, then loading to head to Scottsboro Al, so another decently long run to start the week then probably wrap it up with some local work to finish up. Hope everyone's well, share some stories, some oh crap moments, anything to spark the conversation.

Sounds like you had a pretty busy week. I did some local stuff this week we got a train in Tuesday so I helped with that. With the rain in the area it really slowed down concrete so I did some rock up to northern Missouri and scrap from Des Moines back to Sedalia a few rounds. I hate when product is loaded heavy to one side. Having to build a ramp and all that always sketches me out. Speaking of “oh crap” moments, what is the closest you ever saw one to going over that didn’t? When we were at the landfill last week my coworker was goin up thru the last stage and the ground under his trailer on the passenger side gave way. I saw light under the driver side trailer tires, he shoved the plunger back down to drop it, put it in gear and floored it and pulled it up and out back straight. I’ve never seen a trailer rock that far. He’s been end dumping for 17 years and he said that right there was the absolute limit of keeping it upright, sprinkled with a lot of luck.

A few months back I was in mobile, I had a straight load of stainless bales, typically I wouldn’t feel comfortable dumping those but that day I was feeling froggy. I clicked through the first few stages, as things got moving I pulled forward, set the brakes and went up, got towards the last stage and that’s when all heck broke loose, the rest of the load slid then hung, it fell left, in a panic I slammed it back down, then it went right and when it did I kid you not the outside drivers side trailer tire came off the ground enough that I could see daylight behind me. By the grace of god it settled down and went back down, I kind of laughed it off and politely asked the grapple man if he could pick the rest off :)

Yikes!! I have yet to see daylight under my tires (knock on wood). I hate dumping those stainless bales. I have had some pretty good leans going, usually from uneven loading. But with rock or sand I can tell what I can get away with without a ramp or if i should build one. If I can get the load to break and stand it back up. Scrap is just so unpredictable. I think the worst I’ve ever dumped as far as all hell breaking loose was rail car couplers. Once they start there is no stopping them, there’s no “letting them out easy”, once they start moving its violent.

I meant to ask you this also @Trashtrucker1707 I was talking to a guy I see around KC who works for another company, we kinda started talkin this winter out at the salt mine while in line, and when we see each other around town or on a job we’ll chew the fat. He was saying he brought sea shells from Florida up to Wisconsin and it paid crazy good. He’s a company driver and make likes 27%, and it paid HIM like $100/ton. Does that sound right or have you ever hauled these?

We haul oyster shells regularly, and we also haul landscape shell from south Florida. Ive seen JK Williams trucks down in the mine in south Florida so I’d assume they’re toting it somewhere far. But yes, I could believe it because more than likely it was the shell out of south Florida and that’s a pretty good hike south, a place called Bermont Excavating.

Yep. Landscape shell that’s the term he used. I couldn’t think of it. And right again it was JK Williams. Interesting, thanks man.

What’s goin on fellow end dumpers? Been a pretty easy week so far even tho it’s only Tuesday. Yesterday did 2 rounds of railroad ballast from our yard to a rail yard in Nebraska, and today took dry sand to a college in Lamoni IA and then loaded scrap to unload tomorrow. Idk what happened in Louisiana but apparently all the OTR drivers at work loaded tie plates and went down to New Orleans somewhere. Something must have derailed or washed away I’m guessing. @Trashtrucker1707 you still got your trainee with you?

I made it home for the evening, spent the first few nights out this week heading up towards Huntsville, then over towards MS to load rock, I dropped that a few hours ago. No more trainee for me, he got assigned a truck about a week or so ago so we'll see how it works out. Bring your sun tan lotion next month @motocross25 the Florida summer is here, and I can tell it's going to be a brutal one!

I know man I am counting down the days. I can’t wait. I like my job and I like what I do but I’m ready for a bit of a break.

@Arctic_fox whats goin on in your world? I saw your other post sorry about your luck. What’s the status of the truck?

No worrys mate, my luck tends to run towards this kinda thing. At least no one was killed. As for my rig up in the air still. Their supposed to get an adjuster out by the end of the week so we will see if its totaled or not. Not looking good right now though.
