You won't last 2 weeks, Westcan/Seaboard/Pauls Hauling are WORSE than mega carriers.

Do yourself a favor, get into UPS/Purolator/XPO OR Coop/Safeway-Sobeys, Martin Brower etc etc etc.

Private fleets dude, not contractors, not for hire. If you want to haul fuel, Coop, Shell, Suncor/Petro.

Also, they SAY they pay by the hour, but then they tell you how many hours a run takes, so really its paid by the load. If a 5 hour load takes 18 hours due to delays, to ####ing bad.

Many MANY OTR guys have fallen into this trap lately, and most last 2 weeks.

i’m probably just going to stay where iam right now .ive been here almost 10 years and no one bugs me . i come in do my job and clocked out ot after 9 hrs and i set around dogging the clock most days .it just kind of sucks that i’m busting my ### just trying to make $60-$65k with my experience but i only want local and no food service work . i’m looking at buying a house in two years and once i’m settled in will probably look for a new carrier then because with the crazy housing prices in ontario who knows where i will end up looking at pembroke and bancroft right now.No way in hell i would work for purolator they have a reputation to let drivers go just before probation i’ve talked to a few guys who worked there not a great place to work . problem with martin brower is apparently your on call all the time and are expected to be ready for work when they call. i looked at ups problem being i can’t survive on their starting wages and being the low guy never knowing when u will work .i think canada cartage supplies drivers for sobeys and everyone knows who they hire

Wow, out here in the West, Purolator is quite a good job, lots of new Volvo day cabs, 5 day work weeks.

Martin Brower is one big mystery, the guys who do it, all have assigned routes, but they say getting hired is a pain.

Sobeys/Safeway out here, are all assigned company Daycabs, and most guys like it.

$60-$65k a year, is more than any OTR job, and pretty good for local.

I would look hard into Coop.

that $60-65k a year is gross not take home .Purolator is a good paying job one of our filipino drivers was going to work there . He passed everything but in the interview he was told by the guy doing the interview that its 3 months probation and if i don’t like u your gone before that . his interview was like 3-5 months ago ,another driver told me his friend warned him to empty out his truck before his last day of probation because they will call and say we don’t need u anymore. Guess what happened to him . pay is very good somewhere around $31 a hr after a year in but they don’t treat employees very good and that’s in every job . Apparently martin brower is a union shop and the runs are done by bidding so top guys get the best runs .from the reviews i’ve read on indeed that with martin brower your on call 24/7 and don’t really have a life with them and if u don’t call back in a hr your in deep Sh$t . yellow has a terminal here in mississauga also and looking for drivers but it’s the same bs on call until we need u and it can be 1am in the morning or 5pm at night u never know and i’ve read they lay guys off all the time from nov-march .I understand that there’s no perfect company out there but i have a mortgage and bills like everyone else and need a certain amount no matter what every check so i can’t afford to deal with any bs and low checks .I only make now $1600-$1800 clear for 2 weeks . i’m just going to stay here at kriska good company but pay needs to be higher until i found a house in 2023 then see how far out from the gta i end out . thanks for everyone’s feed back i was reading mixed reviews on sits like indeed from ex drivers and didn’t want to make a big mistake

Yea I know its gross, OTR average is 45K gross in Canada. Even as an O/O, I have too keep my personal payroll low, to pay for all this truck #### (and that's with me working on everything as much as I can, and having friends in an independent shop that help me out).

I would look into XTL then or Costco Fleet.

A few local guys l know went to Westcan. Sounded good on paper. All 3 were gone within 6 months. These weren't job hopping guys either. Never ending bs, micromanaging, issues with pay. All the things people list above. This was in Southern Ontario also.

The on call is not that bad. Most days everyone knows what they're doing the day before. It gets better as you move up in seniority. If you want weekends off, Brower is not the right place. We only have to work 4 days a week and are guaranteed at least 10 hours a day. At top rate you're guaranteed $1400/week. Plus $555/month rsp after 1 year. 12 paid sick days after 6 years and 4 paid personal days. Just working the minimum you're making over 80k.

Friend of mine worked for Westcan in one of their shops for several years. Apparently they've made some changes last year that he wasn't very happy with.

So, the on call thing is just the 4 days you're scheduled to work? They don't call you on the 3 non-scheduled days?

All the guys I know who just quit there, told me its gone Maximum Corporate. Equity Hires, Packing the office/HR/Dispatch/Safety with 22 year old new grads, who don't have drivers licenses and take the bus to work. All kinds of "health and wellness" training, as they slash pay, benefits and make everyone work split schedules.

    Corporate Caring lol.
