Personal use that's true. Commercial use they don't need as reason as it's one of those regulations that assume consent by simply engaging in commercial transportation. Think about it. How could someone ever get pulled in the a chicken coop randomly for a level 1 unless the officer sees a violation? If they required probable cause then there would never be a clean level 1 given.

No probable cause needed in commercial vehicle.
Ajay, Snailexpress, bzinger and 2 others Thank this. -
This has happened to a driver at the company I work for. He got a citation because he left one of the fuel nozzles unattended. Hauling hazmat, which he was, makes this illegal. He (like most of us) never expect to have an inspection while getting fuel, and we get a little complacent.
Best of luck with the inspection!Doealex Thanks this. -
Do commercial vehicles under 10,001 lbs also get these inspections?

Dont feel too bad. I was in ohio and had just pulled out of the girard, oh petro yesterday. Got about 10 miles on the toll road and got pulled over for a level one. Apparently one of my roof markers burned out and i either missed it on my pretrip or it popped after i left. Got up to the travel plaza to see about a light and there were 6 troopers inspecting trucks as they pulled in.
