The Wouxun KG1000G is a good radio. I have mine on all the time, no problems so far..

When setting up a GMRS antenna, can I use the same SWR meter I use for CB?

No, you'll need a meter that's rated for 460 MHz to 470 MHz..

To help with your $$$$ decision. This guy has a good video testing a GMRS 15 watt radio against a 4 watt CB.

It would be a whole different ball game if 11-Meters was open for DX, local communications on CB would be limited.. Terrain is also another factor (On Simplex, NO Repeater) when comparing a UHF radio service to an HF radio service.

BTW: I can find videos that show GMRS beating the pants off of CB. I don't really take any of these promo videos to seriously, most mobile-to-mobile communications (without a repeater) will be effective for 3 to 5 miles. CB does work good for local chat when there is NO Skip present. A couple of problems that CB suffers from is antenna size and an increased Noise Floor on the band.
