I think GMRS would work for me for this reason: I'm usually just hollering across the median strip.
I think if I bought one I'd put a sticker or sign on the back of my vehicle: "Monitoring GMRS Channel 16" etc

Yes, but as you know the 11 meter band is a short range communication band. That's why the FCC chose it years ago for CB. As far as I can tell this video was just an unbiased view on the two different radios of interest. As you know, you still have to talk 5 to 20 miles just to reach the repeater (with a GMRS radio), so it can can forward your signal out a farther distant yet. So UHF isn't as restricted simplex distance wise As you think. To me the big difference is in the size of the antennas.
As far as skip goes, that really doesn't have any bearing on this video. I'm not trying to say CB is better than GMRS. I just thought it was a good comparison video between the two services. -
Timin770 Thanks this.

Lol did somebody already say that? I was just ruminating on how I'd let anybody know I was (also) on GMRS. I wouldn't want to have two totally silent radios -
Kinda hard to read the rear sign across the median at a cumulative speed of 140mph

I would think one of the key things to get drivers to adopt GMRS is to get at least one model on display in truck stops. While it's true we have many CB diehards out there, the industry is changing rapidly with thousands of young people coming on board.
As a side note, I wonder if drivers would follow licensing regulations. A lot of them are sure as heck running more than 4 watts on CB -
I thought the same thing about the regulations. It didn't work with CB so chances are great it won't work with GMRS. Especially when people find out the license cost $70.
