Pretty sure anybody leased on to Landstar or Mercer could swing the insurance.

That's one way to do it, but there'd still be companies that don't do anything except lease out trailers. So I guess the question would be whether or not Landstar would be allowed to own one of them.

    Yes it is.

I don't think it would hurt large companies that much. Most of them have a brokerage division already. They would just terminate all their leased truck owners, and broker out the overflow.

Yes it is. The authority defines it as such.

They might not even need to broker out all that much, what with the sudden influx of new company driver applications falling into their laps.

We're leased to Mercer. Right now if we were forced to activate our authority to keep running our truck, I'm not sure it would be doable with the cost of insurance.

The Simple/ Common Sense solution would be a Consumption Tax...All people and businesses would pay the same rate...Everyone would pay..Even drug dealers and illegals..But Simple and Common Sense cannot be found in GoBerment..

So whats the difference between a owner operator
Leasing onto a carrier and using their authority,
Getting their loads from them, and only allowed
    To get loads from them.

And someone buying any junk food franchise, say subway.
And only allowed to buy their supplies from subway,
Only allowed to sell what subway allows them to sell.

These seem like the exact same scenarios too me.
So any franchisee owner of any type of business
should be put out of business too.

The business end isn’t run thru Subway. The franchise owner is responsible for all the insurance needed and the business license and such.
