WVA would be as big as Texas if it were flat.

I have heard it said that if you flattened out West Virginia it would be larger than Texas. I will say this. As a Trucker, you need to respect ALL grades. Many a trucker has disrespected some of these east coast hills and paid for it with their lives. I know of deaths on I 40 and I 26 in NC and on I 77 in West Virginia and Virginia. I will toss in I-24 in Tenn! While I am on the subject, I have heard about deaths on I 68 in Maryland, but can't confirm this.

I *think* it was WV where I encountered a 13% grade. I remember thinking to myself “I didn’t realize there was such a thing legal for big trucks”. But it was...

Going over Vermont Scenic Route 125 is "not recommended for trucks", but it's not prohibited. 12% on the way up, 12% on the way down, and the last half mile or so is 15%. Gives even ISX Jakes a workout. I'm not taking it again. It would SUCK to get stranded on that road.

In the late 80s green as grass me decided to use us 60 from Lynchburg VA over to Buena Vista VA to get on I 81 .
My truck was an 85 international coe 300 Cummins and no Jake.
Load was roll stock paper nice and heavy!
I made it to the top of the hill with out any fatalities and started down but about halfway down my brakes started smoking so I parked it to cool them .
While sitting there a cop came flying up the hill and parked behind me , he thanked profusely for parking it as he explained runaway trucks blow thru the town at the bottom frequently.
After things cooled off he escorted me to the bottom and I promised him he would never see me on that road again .

Should’ve told him “You want it at the bottom, you drive it. I’m taking the patrol car down!”. Lol
