Well, I don't want to be captain hindsight here.....but.....I didn't see any strap protectors in that mess anywhere. Alot of guys don't use them on lumber, but I always do.....you never know. It only takes a couple minutes to toss them up. To each their own though.

Im going to go with bs on it being secured properly. It may have met dot min standards, but for lumber like that, thats never enough.
As for strap failure, anyone want to take bets on straps being rolled up on winches resulting in uv damage? -
