No disrespect taken. I understand, and agree someone else may glean something for themselves from this thread in the years ahead.

Thank you again for the insight and tips. I certainly agree, especially regarding selling down the road. This is how I had my travel agency organized before Covid shut us down..

Have you ever had an issue with insurance declining or cancelling coverage because two businesses are similar in nature and name? I am having what I feel is a ridiculous conversation with my insurance agent. So I've got the regular OTR MC interstate company under one insurance policy and I've registered a new DOT number under a different company, the name is similar but not the same. He's telling me that he is nervous that for the underwriters will "catch on" and "potentially cancel both"...

I don't see anything wrong or illegal with this whatsoever. I'm not trying to get around any kind of DOT regulation or laws. There are two separate operations, different vehicles, none of them cross over, the only similarity is the same person or entity owns both with the same address.

I'm calling him out on it but I also don't want to poke the bear so to speak in case this is some kind of thing I've missed..

I have been jerked around with insurance until I found a good insurance agent, it takes time to find one.

I'm replying to this in case somebody reads this thread in the future and wonders what the outcome was. After a long day of talking to underwriters and commercial insurance, as well as trucking insurance specialists, the way they want it done is an additional policy for the non cdl, non-trucking interstate vehicles. Problem is my insurer, progressive for whatever reason has a policy not to allow multiple commercial policies for the same company. So I either go with a different underwriter or as I already desire to separate the two entities, give them a different ein and it all works. Gravy
