jus curious since busted trucks have been the topic for some time now.. if someone had a budget for a $25000 truck, would it make more since to buy a $10000 beater and fix it up with the rest of the money (atleast you'd know what was wrong and what still needs to be fix) or jus use the $25000 to buy a truck at or about that price and hope nothin serious goes wrong... oh yeah, neither will have a warranty.. i'm just looking for opinions here.

I'd say look at the overall condition of the truck first, you can probably find some $10K trucks that are far from "beater" condition, just miles and years on them, and you can probably find plenty of $25K fleet trucks that have been beat up so much you wouldn't take them if they gave one to you. Take a look at the interior and it will give you a good idea of how it was treated by the driver. Really depends on your mechanical abililty too, if you're paying someone else to fix the thing, $15K will get spent quickly, but if you're just buying parts and doing it yourself, it will go a lot farther. The bad news is if you look closely, you're still going to find plenty of things to keep you busy fixing on the $25K truck too.

Dyno and an analysis of the fluids will tell you a lot.

is a dyno easy to find to put a rig on? cause i've been to Kenworth of Central Fl more then a few times and i've never seen a dyno there.. or do i have to look for the Cat place? i know where two of them are, but never had to go to any.. i jus know where they're at. i guess that's just somethin i'll have to google in the coming months..

i was looking at the truck paper and saw some really cheap freightliners.. and my dad said the only thing we wouldn't be able to do together is an engine rebuild.. so i figure that would be the only labor i'd really pay for, everything else would be nothin but parts..
