In the UK there is a real driver shortage that beginning to bite hard. After the brexit thing there is no more cheap labour available to fill the seats so consequently and unbelievably the pay rates are climbing fast. A friend sent me this earlier in the week and it's not unusual. That's an increase of about 30% in a year .

Drivers hours over there are much less than here as are speed limits so it's an easier job in many ways.

If I thought I could drive on the left side of the road I'd go over there for a change of scenery.

Its pretty good actually, but 996 is a lot better than the 700 it was last year though !

I can't remember the exact hours, they're a lot more complicated than here but it's ten hour days with one or two 11 hr days a week and a limit of 90 hrs worked every 2 weeks and no option for working resets. Breaks are every 4.5 hours, speed limiter set at 55 but many companies set them at 50 or 52. Difficult finding parking and it's expensive, too much traffic to be fun really and the European eld is a nightmare. You have a card you put into the machine and it records everything and stores it for more than 28 days. Overspeed down a hill ? You just reported yourself! Missed a break by 1 minute? It's right there!

My point was that it's a genuine shortage of drivers, not of properly paid work as it is here .

God that sounds awful. Do you have to report to the government every time you want to take a leak? The people are so controlled and they don’t even realize it.

Don't get me started on the cameras. Really, you wouldn't believe me.

Every car has details of insurance owner and current inspection registered. The plate is read dozens of times a day by cameras, guess how long you can get away with forgetting to update them?

After drinking in UK for a week in regular SUV, not thanks, some of your roads so narrow a was scared that passing car will simply hit my mirrors, how tuck will fit - 0 clue
Not to mention that compare to US you don't have that many rest area and truck stops available (even on motorways)
And driving 55 on motorways with rest of 55 mph trucks...well let's just say it's boring

Well for a place that can be driven in a day, they don’t need a lot of hours.

from Scotland to Panzance (in southern England) took me 7 hours and this included stopping a lot with a gorilla who had to stop to use the bathroom every five miles or seemed like that.

Only 996 pounds a week? When they pay 2000+ pounds a week I'll believe there's really a shortage.
