When I was hauling glass (after the We-lie takeover), several of us were waiting to unload at a glazier when a real Wylie driver walked up (not one of us Moore guys in a restickered Moore truck). He was wearing flip-flops and shorts...and got pissed when the customer refused to let him in unless he put on pants and steel toed boots...but to his credit, he did have his high-viz vest and hardhat on.

Not entirely certain. Even after all the raises, I still think we're $.02/mi more than Crete.

I don't know...I might be closer to it than you this month. When it's daylight, the truck stays on high idle, continuous interior comfort...in the evening, when it shuts down and won't restart at 85° in the cab, I get out my hammer handle wedge and idle it up to 7-800 rpms and it stays on the rest of the night. I am adopting your tolerance for the idle messages...only I stick my fingers in my ears and say 'lalalalalalalala' as the Peoplenet reads the latest message about idle from Deland.

An odd thing. The load I am pulling is a -10 load, on an older trailer. I am just north of Hillsboro, TX where the outside temps are pushing 100°. I check my trailer since it's been running on high speed cool since entering the state, and it's holding in the low -8’s. So, I open the front doors on the unit to vent some heat...and the box temps went up into the -7's...closed the doors, and within 15-20 min, the temps went back into the -8's. Wouldn't you think that allowing heat to escape would help the unit do it's job?

Weather was getting fun in the Joplin area this a.m. I woke up to the pitter patter of rain on my roof, then it slowed down long enough to hit the porcelain reading chair. But the sky was nothing but flashes all around. I get to the shipper, get my paperwork, pull out of the cave to hook to my trailer. Just as I was walking down the passenger side of my trailer doing a walk-around, a lightening bolt flashed and an instant boom... Got my butt out of there and headed towards OK...most of the way to Big Cabin, I looked like a speed boat cutting thru heavy seas. Down US69, after Pryor the outside temp went from 73 to 85 in 10 or 15 miles...and I stayed just ahead of that front all the way to the TX line. Now, it's just plain hot down here in Tejas.

For a lot of us older drivers who have run US69 thru Muskogee for years, we lost a long time landmark over the weekend. That place as you come into town from the south...the building with the big animal statues out front burned to the ground.
