I couldn't tell from the article, but it seemed like most of the fatalities were all in one vehicle from the Girl's Ranch, referred to as a "bus", but probably a window van with 15 or less passenger capacity, which requires no CDL.
Accidents involving that vehicle configuration are more common, and deadly that most people realize. Several factors, improper loading, driver not used to handling that type of vehicle, strange area and weather frequently add up to a crash. Colleges, churches, youth groups, senior citizen centers etc. all use them, they are ubiquitous.
My heart really goes out to those families.

    Terrible tragedy.

Yes, eight of the children (3-17) were in the camp van which was driven by a director of the camp who was mother to two and aunt to two of the victims in the van.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. I actually wrote a similar post yesterday, but deleted it. It's a terrible situation and organizations are starting to realize they are best off to leave the transportation to professionals.

    Bud A. Thanks this.
