The clutch fan on my truck engages frequently and I have counted 3-5 seconds in between intervals. What can be causing this?

An '03 Columbia I was driving started doing that when I was running the a/c. Wan't getting enough air flow through the condenser. Had to evac the A/c, remove the condenser, take the hoses off the air cooler and separate it from the radiator. Then the mechanic blew it all out. Ended up with the floor covered 1/2" deep with crap that came out of there. Put it all back together, charged the a/c and no more problem.
I had tried blow the whole thing out before, but because it had been so many years since it was really cleaned i just ended up packing the crap in there more.

Changed out the high pressure switch/sensor and it’s still doing it.

Is it kicking at a certain temp? Only when AC is on?

Turn the a/c off. It's likely building head pressure, turning on the fan, head pressure comes down, fan goesoff

Hadn’t thought about the A/C but I just tested it and sure enough that’s what’s causing it to come on.So what could be wrong with the A/C?

It's supposed to do that. The condensor has to have air flow. So if you aren't moving, the fan has to come on when the pressure gets high enough to trip the switch. It will do the same thing if you're running the defroster.

Oh hell, it shouldn't be doing that. Could be something as simple as being low on freon.

@Rideandrepair is pretty good with A/C, as well as several others, but he's the one I remember going really in depth recently.

I changed the high pressure switch/sensor and purchased Freon bottle and it showed that the truck was full.
