Just wondering what podcasts everyone listens to? Looking to learn more about lanes, running the business as an o/o, maintenance items, etc.

    Thanks all!

IMHO.....Kevin is right on on some things....way off base on others. He really likes to push his "health products". I take him with a grain of salt. There are times when his ego takes over and he becomes so full of himself that I turn him off.

Hes right in that people should probably eat healthier, but if he sells a product or makes a commission on it, its either snake oil or not as good as just not being an idiot with your body (or truck)

I can't listen to his program. Every time he gets a caller on the program the audio is so bad I can barely understand it. Maybe it's age. Dunno, but I always end up changing the channel.

If you need to listen to podcasts about how to run your business maybe you shouldn’t be in this business.

My post may sound smart alecky, but I don’t mean for it to be. I don’t know what kind of wagon you’re pulling, but that’s what determines the things you want to know.

FREIGHT LANES: There are certain highways where you see more sea cans being moved. You can tell how well it pays too. If the majority of the trucks look like garbage, and the truckstops you see them all bunched in look drug riddled and 3rd world poor, you have to figure that it doesn’t pay well, right?

“So, why would anyone do that, Six?”

To brag that they sleep in their own bed every night. There are sections of highways where you see the car haulers in abundance. You see the cattle haulers in different areas. Reefers have their lanes. In my area, it was big powered trucks pulling the biggest trailers. You’re not getting a superload into one of those dinky container truck stops. Not safely.

Anyways, which section of the industry are you trying to get into?

“Well Six, I was just trying to figure out if there was a good trucking podcast where some knowledgeable people would help out new owner ops to learn the business.”

That would depend on the wagon you pull. What would be a good suggestion for a mileage based doorslamming dry van box jock would be foolish to a performance based reefer. And even tho tanker yankers and heavy haulers prefer midroofs, the truck specs would be completely different

    “So, how would one learn…?”

By determining which end of the industry you want to get in first. Then go to that subforum section and ask your questions.

BTW, as far as podcasts go, I like the Art of Manliness.

    Luck in battle.
