This is mainly for squeezing in more study time while at customers loading/unloading.
But generally if I eat dinner on the go, and immediately hit the shower when I stop I get 2-3hrs to study each night and 6-7hrs to sleep tho if I crunch I’ll only get 4 or 5 but depends on how I feel

it turns out anger at being stuck in a profession you don’t like is a great motivator

Wow, your dislike for OTR was never really that obvious in your posts. I hope it works out, but a man shouldn't work at a job he dislikes so badly. Trucking isn't what it used to be thats for sure. Either are the truck stops, the diners, the other drivers are scary and not friendly. Companies are super greedy and argue with their drivers. They hire people as managers that have no business in those positions. If you go to most trucking co. websites the models they present are like any other company/hospital/fast food website. I am just saying your posts didn't show you were not pleased in trucking, do not get me wrong I understand it. Big time. Its not just what truckers have to do, its 5000 other things that really start making a person physicall ill. Who wants to argue with your employer daily about the load assignment? Told where to stop, all the fueling requirements, for how long, what to do, what to say, where to park, when to park, how long to park, what to do at the shipper/receiver? Every Load Assignment. No time off, sorry, we changed your home time, I hope you don't mind. Trucking Co's have HUGE turnovers, they are always short of drivers, but they don't seem to want to change those things that cause those shortages. Therefore, working at a few companies, drivers that start over again, just go through the motions, agree with everything and get a on time failure, shrug their shoulders, get another late on the next load assignment, over and over and over. So when I get a load assignment I just accept and if its late, its late, they shouldn't have sent such a messed up preplan. It is soooo DUMB. If you speak up or refuse a load assignment they send you to oakland shipyard docks, downtown chicago, downtown san francisco, Mt Everest in winter, or the Saharan desert in the Summer if they could. Unbelievable. We have a driver Shortage Here!! No kidding?

GO for it. I say. Trucking will lose a good man though. Take care, you should do it. Even if you have to leave instead of trying to cram all that in the truck there. My wife and I found an apartment for $500 a month. We paid $35 electric, and $67 for internet last month. We do not watch tv anymore. No gas in this APT, owner pays water, sewer, trash bill. 1Bd, 1Bath, 700 Sq Ft. We are being over run with illegals though. Which is getting really bad. That just started too a couple months ago, I wonder why?

I guess but it is a job, not a professional first and second when that job turns dangerous because you are tired, then you effect everyone and any degree won’t get you to your next life step your thought you could get to because of a degree.

by the way today’s college/university degrees are very overrated, half of what you learn should have been taught in high school and the cost for a return is vanishing as I type.

Outside of that, I get you can make good use of the times you are at a shipper.

    good luck

If I’ve been getting a solid 6-7hrs of sleep I don’t have any sleep debt so a week of 5hrs/each night isn’t that bad.
Believe me I don’t drive tired, I had a scare when I was new.
I can’t do construction or logging because of my shoulder/back and I’m not the kind to get disability when I can work so trucking is my profession for a while.

Yeah I’m looking into a cheaper living arrangement.
I have fun on the job most days but it never outweighs all the other bs.
The time away from doing the stuff I love.
Dealing with people who can’t drive or with the companies.

It also really burns me even my companies little niche is being hit by the race to the bottom. I’m afraid in a few years with everyone immigrating and the requirements for driving a truck being lowered our pay will be borderline minimum wage.

Trucking may not be your ultimate calling, but it looks like you have a fairly good attitude, so I'll just comment...

You said you have fun most of the time, but it doesn't outweight the BS...

The BS is in every job. My experience is trucking has less of it. I've been on the office side, it's a nightmare.

If you are having fun most of the time at your job, you are already ahead of the game.

Office jobs are boring I know, I did some time as a fill in, I actually liked it.
I don’t know I find monotony and boring atmosphere comforting.
Be bored for 8hours and go home to the lady friend and my hobbies with a weekend off vs spend 5-7days from home lonely and can’t even do the things I enjoy.
Except for make fun of the super truckers and talk #### there’s plenty of opportunities for me to do that lmao. Man I need a cb again.
