$80,000 a year just for insurance, that’s insane, is that normal in the US? You’d never make enough in Canada to pay that on top of everything else. Approx $12k-15k per year here.

No. It is not normal. The op is too young and Progressive too unpredictable in how they quote. With a new entrant, if you are over 40 with clean record, decent credit history and the right location, the insurance could be as low as 12 grand for liability and cargo. That's what I paid in the first year. Then it goes down and after a few years could be less than 8k.

Did you think to run the driving record of the driver you are trying to get Insurance for before you sent his name off as the only driver for the truck, or did you put yourself as a driver on the truck also with no truck driving experience.??

Truly, why in the world would anyone insure a 22-year old who just bought a truck and that's the extent of their trucking experience?

Insurance is a business not a charity.

    This here. ^^^

When I got my authority I was 24 and had a friend of mine as the official driver. I excluded myself as driver. I also started with a 100 mile radius. That helps a lot.

Increase your deductible, that helps. Just keep working at it.

I only tried doing it with me as the owner and having a driver. You think I should do it in his name ?
