Has this ever happened to anyone? I received a citation at the port of entry weigh station. I went down to the courthouse per the requirement on the citation, and was intending to plead not guilty and ask for a court date. But the clerk said the citation number was actually assigned to a different driver, not me. So I was unable to plead not guilty til til such time that the clerk's office had time to contact the point of entry and figure out what happened. The clerk took down my phone number and said he'd call me with a NEW citation number at which time I'd be required to come down to the court house again. The courthouse is 20 miles from my house so it's a bit of an inconvenience. I took off a half day's work today to do this. I mentioned these facts to the clerk, but honestly he didn't seem interested.
Citation number pulled up someone else's name, not mine?

Doesn’t that nullify the ticket?
in my state they can’t reissue a ticket when the ticket number is in another’s name.Cattleman84, Roberts450, TheLoadOut and 3 others Thank this. -
That would be most excellent. I do hope this is the eventual outcome. I can only hope and pray.

Sounds like a winner to me

That’s not going to nullify anything. Mistakes get made on citations all the time, they are chalked up to clerical errors and the charge presses on.

The clerk at the courthouse said her department was going to contact the Point of Entry (where I got the citation) and get a new citation. But honestly I don't see how they can give me a NEW citation. Perhaps they can fix the old citation and attach the proper name to it, but as far as getting a new citation, it defies common sense. She took down my phone number and said she'd call me with the new citation number in a couple of days. I'm holding my breath, hoping for a good income. The fine was very high.
ps.. just to clarify. My name is on the physical copy of the citation. But when the clerk put the citation number into the system, she came up with someone else's name. Naturally, if someone else's name was on the physical copy of the citation, it would be a slam dunk.
