I just posted another thread about parking within a certain radius of a truck stop but I wanted to separate the two as this post deals with personal conveyance and parking near distribution centers.

As I stated in my other post, we also have some land near an area with heavy distribution. There are about 12 distribution centers within about 3-5 miles of our land. My father (over the road hauler) always stops about 50-60 miles or so outside of these distribution centers since he cannot get parking near them and also cant arrive to early before his drop. He made a comment that if he could reserve parking that close to a distribution center that it would help him immensely and with it being within a 3-5 mile radius it falls within his personal conveyance so he could park that night, drop his load that morning and go back to the lot all while using his personal conveyance.

So my question is, if we had a truck lot that was fully stabilized with asphalt millings or paved, well lit, fenced with privacy fencing, security cameras and gated with on site security and bathrooms on site similar to what you'd see at a concert or fairgrounds that have HVAC in each bathroom, would you be willing to park at our lot based upon its location to distribution centers?

Great idea , on tour we paid 40 a night for secured parking.
You could also rent a footprint for B2B or B2C events.
Get hooked up network make friends , be positive , shore power is a ++

Can't use PC for the delivery. But can use it for the drive back.

Thanks for the info! What's your thoughts of the overall concept of providing parking next to distribution centers?

If the price is right thennits an excellent idea... But to be honest, the price most company driver would be willing to pay wouldnt be much, if anything.

I would almost always choose to park an hour or two away for free, over parking next door for $15.00. The exception to this would be if I was on a REALLY tight schedule and I HAD to park close in order to still make my next appointment AFTER the current appointment.

On the plus side, most drivers that are willing to pay for parking won't trash the parking lot by dumping trash, human waste, or running over things.

I’ve thought about this in the past. Maybe 5 yrs ago or so. I determined that the investment up front, along with the continued cost of running the lot wouldn’t be a big enough money maker.

You would need 50 trucks at $10 per truck every single night just to gross $15,000 in revenue per month. That’s only $180,000 in revenue per year.

Between all the infrastructure, employees, etc it just doesn’t make sense. It’ll only begin to make sense when all truck stops become paid parking and it’s “normal” to pay. At that point as long as you have the bathrooms, security, and FOOD then it may be possible.

Just my 2 cents but I applaud the idea for sure!!

Pretty much there are usually truck stops close to most DCs. Which are free and have services you won't.

My father drove his truck uphill both ways to the DC. In the snow and barefoot.

Therein lies the opportunity. Those truck stops that provide free parking are full by 3pm leaving everyone else outta luck. From what we've seen there is not always a truck stop next to a developed distribution hub.
