Went in for overhead at 257,000 miles. The estimate was $369.00 to perform overhead on Paccar MX 13. Later I get a call from service writer to say valve cover bolts broke off flush in the rocker cover and can't be drilled out. Have to order new valve cover and rocker cover kit that includes new gasket and bolts, etc . Parts for this kit $ 1,250.30 plus labor of $369.00 . So the cost of routine overhead came in at $1619.30. Now, is this usual for bolts to shear off like that on 3.5 year old valve cover or do shops pull stuff like this on customers to pump up invoice? The valve cover had never been removed since truck was new in 2019, so it not like the bolts were over torqued or anything like that.

lmao. Yeah like thats gonna happen. Just a little info for you guys that dont work on your own trucks. Either you do it yourself or suck it up and pay the piper. Good luck trying to dispute that whether they did it or it was seized. Sorry, hard lesson in life. These repairs arent hard to do. You have to make time for it and do your research. Nobody said trucking was easy

    3 year old truck
    275k miles
    Engines never been cracked open
    Dealership broke it

Warranty should cover it, press the issue enough and they will fix it. If they don't then its time to switch dealerships... Possibly even make of truck completely.

Yup. There's no way I'd pay that bill without asking some questions and getting some decent answers.
Most dealerships aren't dishonest but if they can sting you for something, especially knowing you'll put up with it, they will.

I know a guy who followed that with left handed threads and it didn’t work for him for some reason?
Do you have any idea what could of gone wrong?
    Asking for a friend.
