I’m having some difficulties because I’ve gotten myself trapped in an analysis paralysis loop.

One thing I always wanted to do was drive a truck. I’ve done it, some. I’d like to do it more. I don’t have a CDL, so I’m looking at company schools, but several problems crop up.

I built a business with a friend, we took it from start up to 7 figures within a year, ran it for a decade, then his mental issues exacerbated by his self medication with ambien and bourbon caused it to explode quite spectacularly. I was worn out at that point and basically went into semi-retirement, including a couple years of van life. Once I turned 50 I thought I should sort of rejoin the world and since most of my friends are truckers and I’d always wanted too...yeah.

But the lack of recent work history seems to be an issue (I maintain that I’ve demonstrated I’m not going to run off because I miss my recliner and I understand having to schedule bathroom and shower time...but that doesn’t work lol).

Also, I’m in NH. But I’ve tried to make the case that I have no real ties here, no wife, kids etc, I could be from anywhere, no dice.

I’ve got no felonies, clean driving record back to 1995 or so. I’m not going to be scared away by loneliness- I already go days at a time without talking to people.

Prime won’t even call back to discuss any possible alternative ways of verifying my last couple of years. Millis hates my location, even after I pointed out I wasn’t going to be asking for home time up here.

Am I doomed to Swift (nothing against the good Swift drivers)? Is there a better way to present myself that I don’t know? I haven’t applied to Wilson Logistics because I thought they didn’t hire from my area. After reading they do—I worry ill say something wrong.

    thanks

You're not doomed. Move to a better location such as South Dakota, Florida, Texas, Nevada.

As for Swift; Swift Refrigerated is a good division. I don't think they hire in NH though.
Stevens Transport might hire from your location & has their own cdl school.

If you still have your van, then become a member of Escapees RV Club. This can help you get a legal address in Texas and Florida; maybe South Dakota and Nevada. Excapees also has a mail service, so you always get your mail, no matter where you are.

CRST hires in New Hampshire; all 48 states. Must run teams until your contract is fulfilled, then can run solo.

Is Florida actually better? I thought a lot of companies didn’t hire from there because not as much freight comes out?

Florida is loaded with freight; into and out of, especially refrigerated freight.

I've lived in Florida and it's a good state for truckers and to live in.
    I live in Nevada now.

I always forget about reefers. Up until recently I was focused heavily on dry van to start. Of course Florida has refrigerated loads out, duh. Thanks.
