Lead to well over 100,000 in the coming years Apparently companies Are recruiting from
South Africa New Zealand as there English speaking countries , trucking in the uk is in a similar state companies can’t keep hold of drivers as soon as they here of better paying jobs they quit , trucks parked up a shortage of food in stores it’s a crazy situation there was also tax reform in the uk which started this April and brexit where the uk left Europe so many European citizens had to leave now there feeling it as a lack of workers not just in trucking .

Facebook news isnt new news. Facebook news is when its algorythm thinks you should be updated.
Oh and the driver shortage has been around for 8 years. It isnt new news at all. Tho every 6 months to a year some one whom hasnt been on TTR much will come along and post that there is a driver shortage.
There isnt a driver shortage, There is a lack of companies that wont want to pay drivers for the time they actually spend driving the truck.Bud A., joey8686, bryan21384 and 9 others Thank this. -
Oh, I imagine the number is larger than 60K. I have heard thousands of drivers for whatever reason leave the industry every week. I would imagine the carriers need at least 60K to keep what trucks they have on the road running. I have not confirmed any of these numbers, but I have heard the turnover rate FOR ALL OTR carriers is 50% in a year! With these rates, I would say 60K is just scratching the surface!

I haven't seen empty shelves at the stores. Even the U.S. Dept of Labor has said there is no driver shortage, but that it is a retention issue. One that better pay and working conditions would go a long way in alleviating. The ATA has been crying about a shortage since the early 90s, at least. They are just running out of gullible people.
There is a shortage of top tier drivers, and those drivers tend to stay where they're at.Bud A., drvrtech77, nredfor88 and 14 others Thank this. -
Looks like intelligent new drivers PLAN their moves to higher paying companies asap but don't hurt their resume by job hopping or getting stupid bad marks on their records. These are probably the ones good companies would be smart to do whatever was needed to keep them. Doesn't matter what field you're in, a motivated, experienced employee produces profits, trainees cost you money.
So, is there a shortage of drivers? No. There is a shortage of experienced, competent drivers. They are looking to improve their bottom line and go where their profits are maximized.Bud A., D.Tibbitt, NavigatorWife and 3 others Thank this.
