I really don’t think it’s a bad investment. Just like classic cars I imagine for a good while they’re just going to go up in value if they’re taken care of.
Why? Just... Why???

You know guys, those trucks are for the macho drivers.
there is a few places north of me where these trucks are not welcomed.
one is a warehouse that has very tight docks, they reject anything with a long wheel base, large gaps between the trailer and truck or large sleeper. I’ve been where when the guard measured a truck and told the guy to back out of the lot.
there is also a auto supplier near my office, they have docks made for 40 foot trailers and a small street. The docks are enclosed so the driver has to setup carefully then avoid the lawn that is on the other side. You can get a 53 footer in there, ups and one mega does it all the time, they use day cabs but I have seen three times these yahoos with their long wheelbase trucks like the one in the first post try to get into the dock and hit the building or get stuck, literally stuck where all the docks are blocked and have to be pulled out.
but there is another place I see these trucks go where they are not supposed to go. Even regular sleeper trucks have issue with these cross over bridges along i96 coming out of Detroit. There have been a lot of trucks getting stuck on these bridges because the drivers don’t understand they need to go to wider bridge.
One busy area there are two cross overs there, one is wide where four trucks side by side can drive over, and another that is made for cars less than 1/8 of a mile away. The smaller bridge like a few others down the road have tire marks and debris from trucks trying to use these bridges,
So a few months ago, I went through the area around 9 am, there was one of these macho trucks sitting on the bridge stuck, seriously stuck. The driver had to make a sharp right turn from the far right lane and miscalculated the turn, caught the bridge with the trailer and back axle, blocking two lanes. Came back through at 1, the cops had the road closed, had two rotating two trucks there pulling the truck and trailer apart to get it out of there.
now while I don’t fault the driver for the truck, but come on … you can see from that bridge entrance the wide bridge and use it without being stupid.
I talked to one of the msp carrier enforcement cops a week later and mentioned it, he said that the county is sending the bill to the carrier, he thinks it was around $20,000 so far, not counting the bridge repairs. -
if youre afraid of wheelbase, dont drive one. Are you afraid of a 13, 18, 15, super 10 speed if all youve ever driven is a regular 10?
As for form over function.
Go ahead and tell me my wheelbase is stupid when i haul a 60 foot beam on my 48 foot trailer with only 4 foot rear projection or less.

I can almost guarantee that many talking trash on long trucks have never driven one on snow covered or slick roads. If they did they’d never go back to the 230” fleet special.
And docks built for short trucks, think almost every ranch in the country built for short trucks unless over the years they’ve built new pens somewhere else on the property. And with livestock you don’t get the liberty of being sort of square and throwing a dock plate in the trailer, you have to be perfectly square so they can’t slip a leg into a gap. But many people over the years seem to make it work, same as the guys pulling van and reefer with long trucks.
I’d like to see pics of all these mythical places that long trucks can’t go.Tug Toy, Geronimo17, God prefers Diesels and 9 others Thank this. -
