Fleet air filters. They're a foam/oil filter. As long as they're oiled properly (you'd be surprised how many people think they're doing it right but aren't) they flow better than a new paper filter and filter considerably better

 

It’s not bad. Typically they won’t flag it till 50 ppm.

Still - less is better.

I run an Amsoil BP filter, and I’ve got the Fleet Air.

Much more sucky sucky vroom vroom.

Very technical information I know.

 

I fully recommend a bypass filter - the Amsoil was about $350 - vs that overpriced KR thing.

Good thing about foam filters - clean every 10-15k, or when you’re bored. Every time you do, you’re saving the paper filter cost.

To me - it’s about the most important thing on a combustion engine - clean and maximum airflow.

 

I thought it was sucky sucky boom boom vroom vroom.... I’m guessing these reusable foam filters are the big truck version of a K&N?

 

I’ve only heard of K and N.

The FA filters are a 3 wrap Velcro fastened foam sheet around a metal cage.

I noticed you can actually hear the turbo better after installing.

Who doesn’t love the sound of a turbo spooling up?

 

Silicone is basically dirt. It's normal for that to be a little elevated after a rebuild or sometimes even an overhead. In my opinion though it shouldn't spike after an overhead, but it might. Who does your oil samples? If it's CAT call them up and ask about that, they'll answer your question. I started using Blackstone Labs with my Detroit. And they will definitely explain a sample mostly without the need to call them and ask for more info. They cost a little more but I think are worth the extra $. As far as air filters I've always preferred Donaldson. Not really a fan of the oiled filters but to each his own.
