Idiot should have been on the shoulder. Parked with 4ways on. Hopefully he's not allowed back in a truck.

I hope the driver of the "hazardous" truck is charged with manslaughter!
There is no excuse for being in the travel lanes at that speed! Sure the other driver should have been aware of his surroundings but a truck moving at 55 will run up on a truck moving less than 10mph very fast. There could have been a vehicle next to him so he couldnt move left. If there was time he could have hit the shoulder to pass. Terrible terrible situation! :-(

Mototom and Wasted Thyme Thank this.

I’m a bit torn here would need to know more but it seems like a combination of both trucks even though the golden rule is if you hit someone from behind it’s 99.999% your fault. Impeding the flow of traffic could play in here but more info is needed to entertain that part.

They should sue the EPA for mandating a 5 mph derate over nothing more than some liquid squirting into the exhaust as it goes up the tail pipe.

Better question is why the driver ignored everything prior to and took his truck to the point it derated.

Both at fault? But mostly the slow truck.

By the witness posting slow truck with flashers on was moving in this area for a long time. Probably was trying to make it to dealership or company yard. Cummins, Freightliner, Pete are in this intersection.
And who's to blame? Survivor of course! As they do when truck driver rearends cars stopped to take picture of accident or whatever reason.
Absolutely avoidable and unnecessary life lost.
Stay alert and be safe all.

Drive by wire trucks can surprise you without warning. Road bump and you have no accelerator pedal response.

The deceased driver might have not been paying attention to forward movements and seemingly, based on no other evidence, simply slammed into trailer.
Apparently he wasn't able to SLOW DOWN or comprehend the unusually SLOW movement of the crippled Combo.
DAYLIGHT, NO CLOUDS, Looking 10-15 seconds FORWARD, instead of what's just in front (or distracted by something in the Cab) should have alerted the unfortunately deceased Driver to the potential upcoming Peril(s).

YES, regardless of Truck being De-Rated, "driver" should not have been in any Travel Lane, therefore, using limited information as availed in Article, Forward Driver Is Guilty Of something!!
    - - - -
How Many of these SAD New Trucks Have De-Rated on and/or off Interstates?
    How many have CAUSED CRASHES/FATALITIES?

Snailexpress, Bud A. and lovesthedrive Thank this.

The derated truck didn't cause the issue. The truck driver not moving out of the travel lanes caused it.
