Was told u can get a violation for logging sleeper time as off duty. That’s just pathetic honestly. I had a dot officer try to give me a violation once for leaving it on sleeper when I did hometime once. Which is someone understandable but is still petty as ####. I couldn’t stand that ####er. People like that make the world suck. If you are a dot officer and you give people violations for #### like that you’re just a loser.

This is why there should not be separate lines for Sleeper Berth and Off Duty.

If you're not on duty then you're not on duty, plain and simple. It doesn't matter whether you're sleeping in the sleeper or at home in your own bed.

It's a pretty simple rule. Inside the truck = sleeper. Outside of the truck = off duty.

Technically if you’re behind the imaginary line where the curtains hang, log sleeper. If you’re in passenger seat in a parked truck, or outside of truck, it’s off duty. And all time even sitting in driver seat is legally supposed to either be logged as on duty or driving. And yes I agree it’s a load of manure lol

To be off duty means you aren't responsible for the truck/load/dispatch etc etc. One could be logged, "off duty" while taking their 30 but they aren't literally off duty. It's very debatable.

There's been a guidance statement from the FMCSA that one could take their 30 from the driver's seat. The HOS are a joke.
