Ask A Dispatcher anything

I was in line at a company I worked for to turn in paperwork. The dispatcher was on the phone with customer explaining how his delivery was late because the driver overslept or something. The load had yet to be assigned to a driver. The industry runs on lies.

 

Very true statement, the industry runs on lies. Never understood why the company gets mad when I tell the customer the truth.

my dispatch used to pay 6 miles for driving from one train yard to another train yard in Atlanta .
It usually took an hour and ten minutes in atlanta traffic.
I’d give em one free trip a day and dispatch would get mad when I refused to shuttle back and forth several times a day getting paid six miles for 70 minutes of work.

and your company has got to be weird .

hiring former drivers as dispatch?
Every place I’ve ever worked the dispatchers were usually Rejects who couldn’t handle working the drive thru at Burger King .

Why do some companies penalize dispatcher when their driver gets a ticket, etc? Where I am she can lose % and set $ loss.

I told her wtf. How is it your fault lol.

Not me. We were talking and she has some problem drivers. But she gets penalized as well

 

How many hours do your dispatchers work per week, and whats your ballpark annual pay and benefits?

 

I'am not even a dispatcher .. And if you told me you didn't know how to write a check.. 1st I would LMAO.. then I would chew your ### too

How common is dispatcher favoritism. Say some driver likes to ask you how your weekend was and how’s the family, and you’re doing a great job, now can you get rid of my crap load and give me a good load and you can give the crap load to a driver that can’t suck up as well as me.

Are there a lot of drivers that try to butter up the dispatcher, are they sometimes successful??

 

2 part question...
Have you ever told a bold face lie to any of your drivers knowingly ? Like this for example.. lf you take this load for me .. I promise I will have a real good load lined up for ya when you get there and get this 1 kicked off ..knowing that that is not true ????? and if the answer is yes... how do you sleep at night ???

 

Thanks for this post. I’m continually blown away by what absolute garbage companies a lot of guys here on TTR must drive for. I really can’t even imagine it.

You are so right though. The right company with the right people, can really be quite a force and as enjoyable as trucking can get.
