First time dealing with a recruiter so maybe it's normal but asking questions is like shouting into an endless void. No problem with 'hey, your DOT physical has been scheduled' or 'here's a list of what you'll need for orientation', but questions seems to be a waste of time.
Hiring for this division in my area?
Nothing.
I noticed the list of things I need doesn't include work gloves or work boots. Do I need those?
Crickets.
Any problem with giving my current employer a two-week notice?
Nothing but deafening silence.
Is this normal or should I try to find someone who might actually not be allergic to providing information?
Normal for recruiter to basically ignore you?

There's a fun game you can play. If you call Stevens transport they always drop the same line ," im a little busy right now so could you fill out an application and we can get started on the process" most the questions you ask they don't have the answer for you have to get a supervisor on the phone . There's a YouTube show called trucking answers he called them and ran them through the hoops with questions
autopaint, tscottme and Sir Grouch Thank this. -
I just don't want to rock the boat and appear to be a problem child now that my foot is in the door. But I also don't want to play guessing games as I get ready to walk away from the current job. It's not great and the pay sucks but it beats the heck out of not earning a paycheck.austinmike Thanks this. -

Regarding, hiring in your area. The recruiter should definitely be giving a correct answer. It's in everyone's best interest.
On the boots and gloves. Yes. Honestly, that's probably not a question that you should bother a recruiter with. You need to show up to work.
Two week notice. Your choice. When you go in for orientation, you are going to a multiple day job interview. If you get the job is on you. If you give notice is up to you. Again, probably not a question for the recruiter. -
Just passing by, jason6541, OldeSkool and 3 others Thank this.

Keep in mind they are playing a numbers game, and once you have signed up they likely don't want to waste anymore time on you. They have scores more applications to go through and probably work on a $$ per head situation. You are already in the bag, so they are back out fishing.just_sayin and austinmike Thank this. -
I've been trying to get in touch with Stevens. They sent me an email and asked that I contact a recruiter. I call and waited about 20 minutes for someone to answer. I sent them an email asking if they're interested in hiring drivers.
I get an email back with a recruiters personal cell number and she asked me to call. I call and the cell and get some odd recording and then get disconnected, no option to leave a message.
I'll keep looking.Lonesome Thanks this.
