I’m noticing at my company more and more drivers are becoming aware there is a severe labor shortage and it’s getting pretty darn hard to be fired. Guys are getting away not literally with murder, but definitely getting away with more than normal.

I’m a city LTL driver and we had one driver literally curse out a customer and not get fired, dispatch just doesn’t send him there anymore. We had another driver that got fired a while back for hitting a forklift, then days after coming back from suspension he ripped a trailer. They just hired this idiot back, I was stunned to see him in the drivers room. When I asked the boss he just shrugged and said we need drivers. Another driver decided he didn’t like his shift and wanted to switch, they said no and he said he wasn’t getting in the truck and hauling their freight unless it was the shift he wanted, they gave in. And now he’s running early mornings like he wanted. How long can this last? Anyone else noticing drivers behaving badly and getting away with it ?

Yes. The company I just left had a driver nicknamed Crash. He tore up another trailer and it was supposed to be his last chance. He’s still employed. Guys that hadn’t earned vacation literally took the days they wanted (they were strict with unearned days off). They were just maintaining the drivers they had. It was getting silly.

Yep. I don’t know if I would call it all bad. Sometimes you need to stand up for yourself even with customers. If you want to replace me go ahead. I can work anywhere and get paid good for it.

I tell you people seem to be on edge. Drivers, warehouse workers, dispatchers, security guards.

The only place you get a smile is the fast food workers and that’s only because they’re making way more money now then they ever did before.

OK I’m not for taking advantage of a situation, and if I was the boss someone threw that “there’s a driver shortage”, BS in my face, i’d fire them out of spite just for being a smart Alec. Lol that said, you got to be eating some of this up though. I mean trucking companies have been kicking us drivers around for years. Taking advantage of us. And this is a little payback.

It is unreal out there though. Who knows if it will stay like this for very long. But if you’re looking for a truck driving job, it’s like being the first round draft pick in the NFL. And more. It’s like being the first round draft pick, having played three seasons and proven yourself. They’ll start out at $25 million a year contract and end up with about 60 million. Trucking companies will literally change their offers to accommodate you.

I just chatted with the guy who hadn’t driven a mile yet for his new company and I already cashed $1900 worth of checks. Lol

    Man, ain't that the truth.

It feels like more than just our industry though. It's like society is on edge all the time.

I thought this was going to be someone asking who would hire them with a murder conviction
