It came to my knowledge that a gentleman I know who used to work with C.A.T transport in Calgary now has over a 100 trucks. He has trucks with over 7 to 8 trucking companies. He is an owner operator ! How is this possible?
I work with deck x TransX a flatbed fleet. They don’t like it when owner ops have more then 3 trucks. Do companies really allow more trucks. I only have 2 with deckX. I am on a learning curve with this buisness It must be hard to run 100 ! As an owner operator who’s being controlled by all thease managers !
How can an owner operator have 100 trucks ?

Also hope he doesnt have any new trucks on with CAT. Deductable up, way up, and they capped truck value at 150k. So if you just paid 220 for a new pete, and it gets stolen and is a total loss, you get 150-25k deductable... not sure if you would even get financing on a new truck over there now? I looked and nobody will write deductable buy down over 15k, and its almost 200 a month for that and it gets you down to 2k.Russell The Trucker Thanks this. -
Well that’s quite the stresss. I just downsized my fleet. I’m at 17 units because it’s hard to find drivers thease days.

He doesn't own the trucks, some temple does. He's just the front man, to get the trucks and drivers in with the companies who are hurting BAD for reliable power right now. This is one of the reasons I decided to get out of ABL (Power Only Contracting). These guys are literally setting up trucking companies, inside of other companies. So its like they get all the benefits of being leased on, and being an ABL contractor at the same time, with way less expenses and risk.
Sad to say, the company I work for, is allowing this to happen also. There is already one guy, who has 25 trucks/drivers working here. He knows #### well they're desperate for CAN/US OTR power, so they made a deal.
Glad I'm done with all this BS, and just on a scheduled run/hourly, can't be messed with.AModelCat Thanks this. -
The guy I herd about in ontario with 100 some trucks on at cat doesn't belong to a temple. He had some land close to the 401 in Eastern ont he rented to cat as a drop yard then started buying some trailers and renting them to cat when they needed them then started buy trucks and leasing them on to cat as he could afford them.

He's one guy, who has an "undisclosed" source of funding, who has 25 new trucks and drivers leased on to this company. They allowed him to do this, out of desperation for power units, now his trucks never do LTL, they never get laid over, and they almost always do drop and hook. If he gets any lip, his drivers stop answering their phones/satellites.
Meanwhile the single Co Drivers, O/O's gotta live off the scraps or anything he doesn't want his trucks doing. That's why so many companies are limiting the number of trucks to 3. Its enough for the fleet owner to make a little bit of money, not enough capacity that the company would be screwed if it disappears.Magoo1968, upnorthwpg, Elroythekid and 1 other person Thank this.
