Anytime you get in and out of the truck, check to make sure your release handle wasn't pulled. Also when doing a drop&hook, a "tug" test isn't enough, you have look and make sure the jaws are locked on the kingpin. Been seeing this more and more lately. Very dangerous.
Always visually check this!!!

Why would someone release it ?!
...plain stupid in my opinion ...
I honestly check it only when I'm leaving my yard . Will pay attention ! -
At least some newer trucks will alert you when your kingpin is pulled.

One driver was lucky and another driver had his forward facing camera on and saw who pulled his king pin lock. He warned the driver before he got back in his truck. They caught the guy that did it are reported it to the police and his company. Don't know what happened after that.Cowboyrich, Dino soar, BigBob410 and 2 others Thank this. -
4mer trucker, JoeyJunk, pavrom and 1 other person Thank this.

Do you think it’s pins being pulled or more of a guy hooking up to a heavy loaded trailer and it’s been just hanging on by weight?
Ive seen dropped trailers many miles away from any possible place to have had it purposely pulled
I never set my trailer brakes and I think in most cases that also helps in making it difficult to pullLast edited: Sep 7, 2021
