I do not recommend roger beep. I hardly hear anybody use it these days.
If you must use echo, I recommend just enough to fatten the sound a tiny bit. I run a little echo, but I bet most listeners don't even know I have echo turned on. All day long I hear radios with so much echo I can barely understand the audio. I didn't know why drivers spend big bucks on big radios, only to crank the echo and render themselves unreadable.
Running a tight route like that with lots of log trucks you'll see and talk to many of the same drivers every day. Should be lots of radio traffic

NO ECHO.
it makes you sound like crap
why buy a radio for that much money only to sound like crap.
as for the reviews and that crap, look many people who bought things and are happy never post a review.
the most important thing isn’t the radio, it is the antenna.Kilgore0237, jessejamesdallas, jdchet and 1 other person Thank this. -
"NO ECHO"
Amen brothernredfor88 and Kilgore0237 Thank this. -
As far as echo.........I use it on AM but keep the knobs down to, basically less than 9 o'clock. Just for a little reverb action. If you hear the effect in your talkback it's probably too much.
Get a decent antenna system set up before you use that radio or you probably just threw the money you spent on the radio over your shoulder!

yeah you are right and I just want a good sounding radio that picks up a few miles. I wasn’t sure about the peak deal before and it says they don’t over peak which I’m good with. It doesn’t have to be completely perfect, just want to sound clear going out and coming in.
noted on the antenna, I see this is the most important feature and the radio has a built in SWR, hopefully from the videos I watched, instructions and even Walcott said to call and they’ll walk me through it all, I can get it dialed in good. I wasn’t knocking them at all, just read mixed reviews and I know we all get lemons or things happened, just didn’t want something overpowered that didn’t sound good.
Thanks for your input, much appreciated. -

I appreciate the feedback guys, I see my biggest focus needs to be in the antenna set up. Here is a few pictures of the current set up, what advice do you have on it?
wanted to get a new antenna and possible coax, skip shooter has been mentioned and from reviews and the price looks good.
Is the mirror enough of a ground or do I need to give some attention there also?
Again, I appreciate the input, means a lot!Attached Files:

As far as the antenna, I would go with a 5' Skipshooter.

Coax, don't cheap out! I like this.

Different lengths are available depended on your needs.
You might consider a new antenna mount, but at the very least, clean the connections on the mount you have.
You probably have a decent enough RF ground, but it might not hurt to ground the door to the cab.
Kinda like I did on the Freightshaker I drive. Flat braided ground strap only!!!!!
You will also benefit from wiring the radio power directly to the batteries with at least 8-10 AWG wire. The radio will work off the power posts in the truck, but not at it's best.
This all might sound like alot of headache but big radios aren't plug and play if you want the performance that you paid for.
Good luck!

This is a 10 inch grounding strap, does look right?
Skip shooter it is, the price seems right compared to the Stryker but performance looks as good from reviews, your input and Tim.
Got it, I have two beefy wires look like 8-10G gauge and I feel like it’s to the battery because the radio will turn on with the truck off and has butt slices in the current power cord. I will check the gauge and see where it is wired.
This is seriously great guys, I will have to keep an update on the progress and I’m sure asking for advice along the way as well.Attached Files:
