Hate to tell you this. But even drivers education in high school. Is only to pass the test.

What you would "like" it to be. Is not the reality of what it is.

I do understand what the reality is. However, at this particular school, this particular instructor is trying to do better.

No. He's causing confusion. Students are taught to use the cones. To be sure that they are lined up correctly. So if the training and the test cones are in different positions. It's going to make it harder to pass.

Similar to learning to make free throws from farther out. Your form will be wrong. When doing the real thing.

His intentions might be good. But his results are bad. But like it's said. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

It's not like learning to make free throws from farther out. It's like learning to make free throws with an actual hoop, then using a hula hoop sized one for the test. If you understand the mechanics of how to get into a 10 foot wide spot, you can easily get into a 12 foot wide spot.

And again, the OPs problem wasn't really with the size of the spot, he was annoyed at how long other students were taking to back in and how that limited his time. His anger is misdirected at the setup of the backing range instead of the poor student to equipment ratio.

Well if i’m honest, why reivent the wheel.. thats not his job or what I signed up for. I signed up to prep for the “road test”, not the “road”. If they want to offer “real world training” then offer that up as a seperate class! They don’t need to dump 40-60k x2 on two new trucks to fix the student to equipment ratio, they simply need to put the cones to regulation.

Yeah, I mean maybe we should add college education to high school curriculum. Makes since right? Get’s you ready for a career and the teachers care! NO, people all learn at different rates which means the advanced students will get held up by the slow learners. You don’t throw the slow learners into advanced classes, you seperate the two to not hold up advanced students and the slower learners.

Put the cones at 12 feet and guys are still going to be taking 30 minutes to back in the spot.

Oh, and he's not reinventing the wheel. PTDI schools do the same thing.

I also disagree, when the cones got moved to 12 ft, students were requesting for a 10 foot box because they were having trouble with the 12ft. Again, somethings are better in theory then in practice. Just wondering if you have any evidence that other schools are doing 10 ft cones? As in something verifiable? I’m in a trucking mill not a proffessional driving school!
