    Don't know if the driver was ever caught, but he used wood like that to steal tires.
    He'd pull in behind a truck at the truck stop parking area, Then the would ask the driver in front if he would pull up just a little because he needed just a little more room. He had already put wood in front of the inside tires of the trailer, so when the other driver pulled up, the outside tires would be barely off the ground. Then he'd watch the other driver and when he went inside the truckstop, the guy would quickly remove the outside tires/rims, throw them in the back of his trailer and leave.

    That worked with the old Budd wheels, not so easy with Hub-Pilot wheels. Remember all the broken studs we had to deal with. lol
