Hi all. Prior O/O coming back after extended time away, having issues getting insurance on older equipment. Rebuilt a 1974 Pete 359 and a 1980 KW K100 Aerodyne, and have a couple 90’s double-drop flats to go with.
So far, every insurance carrier I’ve contacted refuses to insure anything older than 25yrs - which nukes my power units entirely (and puts my trailers in a questionable situation). I’ve seen some out there still running Brockway/White/GMC/Ford, which haven’t been made since the late 80s….along with the more usual PACCAR brands. Where are y’all getting coverage these days for 25+ year old machinery, used for-hire (not farm or collector trucks)?
My MC/USDOT is based out of Ohio, though I reside in Texas now (if that matters).
Thanks,
-D

Had no trouble insuring my 30 year old Volvo with Progressive. None of the companies I quoted with ever mentioned age.
-
They were one of the ones who refused. The rep said I could get *farm* insurance, but that I wouldn’t be able to drive far or for-hire, and if caught, could lose my current/future coverage options through Progressive.
I will call them back and inquire further on this. -
@wore out @Largecar359 may have some suggestions
DR1188 Thanks this. -
Try a different agent. I have a 91 and an 86 insured through progressive. They may not renew but so far nothing has been said the 3years or so I been with them.
Speed_Drums, DR1188 and 062 Thank this. -
Since most current cabover models are refuse or otherwise special use (ex: fire trucks), restoring oldies is the only way forward. The Pete I restored solely because it has a Detroit 12V71TI in it, but it’s my only conventional cab unit.
If I had to give up my older trucks after all tbe time and effort on them, I’d be heartbroken (and pissed). We were bored in retirement, but coming back, it seems much has changed in 6-10yrs…Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
@SmallPackage may know a agent he’s somewhere in Texas.

Posting a picture of 2005 Pete 320 -
I’m just gonna say you probably haven’t seen anything yet in way of changes........more happening every day. Days for those like myself are numbered I’m sure, that said I ain’t just gonna hand it to em and slink off quietly.

Try National Indemnity Company......with that age you would need a "vehicle inspection" to make sure it's safe, but otherwise Liability shouldn't be a problem.
Phys Dam is another thing.........would probably need a Lloyds policy with an "Agreed Amount Clause", based on an average of three appraisals.
