Moving to Albuquerque and making meth? Sorry too much breaking bad and watching somebody without clearly defined goals.

I just learned that many feel that having goals is a bad thing.

Look at successful people. I'm sure folks like Elon Musk had extensive goals and the drive to achieve them.

    Goal setting is the solution
If you have NOTHING to goal for you will hit it every time

This is exactly the problem many in marriages have.

Assume the two have a goal of getting married, and then get married, the milestone was hit, they now continue that trajectory, they are now drifting apart. So "whats next?" Needs to be a conversation. goals can bring people together, but you must constantly recalibrate.

Studebaker has a good point, having various goals can help you tune your life long term.

    Lol

How right you are. When I asked my wife if she would marry me she agreed. I reminded her I wanted to be married to her forever not till the next thing came along. We’ve had some bumps along the way but the goal is to love and cherish each other till the end. 26 years so far.

Only focus on the baby steps toward your broader goal. Focusing on the big picture will do the opposite. It’ll leave you paralyzed and unmotivated.

That is not quite accurate, SOME people will need to utilize the "what about bob" method, others do not face the same issues. Clearly you have to make all the small steps as well, but for me, i find the small steps to be good markers of incremental progress to be tracked, but not TOO often. The steps may be too small to see any progress

Compare what you say in say weight loss, most people should not actually weigh themselves daily, there will be so much noise in the daily variation that doing so would be counterproductive, tracking daily excersize and diet yes, but only weekly/biweekly weigh in.
