Update……. 5.5 hours later, new tire and good to go. Only issue was the wire that controls the ABS, cruise control, traction control and the beeping got cut. Easy fix tomorrow with a splice. Just not in the mood tonight. Been up since 2:30 this morning, Abilene got enough out of me today. I’m done.

Hill Phoenix delivery went smooth at the dollar tree in rural MN. Was only on two lane roads for an hour and it was pretty wide too and not as narrow as I thought it would be, the rest were 4 lane hwy and interstate. Wide open space too behind the stores to maneuver in. Went in and talked to the manager and hvac showed up shortly after. Had me done in 30 min, they used a flatbed tow truck to winch the coolers out onto it then dropped them at the store doors. Poor hvac guys got profiled by the store manager though as they were black and store manager freaked when he saw them when they rang the door buzzer, told them I gotta watch you and you can't do this or touch anything etc etc....manager didn't do that to me when I talked to him earlier.

Anddddd……..sick yet again. Been off since 9/17. The fun began 9/18. Had my grand both days and she had a cough and major snotty nose going on. Woke up with a major sore throat on the 19th. Then onto all the other fun things that come along with bronchitis. Several negative Covid tests (because if you have the symptoms you have to take a test and still can’t get into the doctors office), antibiotics (with horrible side effects) and a cough that had me choking 90% of the time, I feel halfway human again. I have not ever been sick as much as I have been this past year. It’s kind of freaking me out now.

My husband smokes, but he goes outside to do so. We did go to a friends house a couple weeks ago who still smokes in his house (and the dude has COPD and STILL smokes 2 packs a day for cripes sake!). If I spend more than a little time there, I always feel crappy afterwards. When we come home, we literally put our clothes directly into the washer and start it, and grab a shower. Even my smoker husband says it’s hard on his lungs there.
This same guy thinks Covid is BS. Got mad at us when we told him that since his cousin has Covid, she shouldn’t be coming to their uncles funeral today and that my husband won’t be in attendance, nor will he be around for a while because we don’t need to bring that to our house and family. WTF is wrong with people? I don’t care if you’re vaxxed or not, your choice, but if you know someone (or are the person) who has it (or the flu or whatever), why would you even think to be around others? Oy Vey!! -
It’s official, we are now being micromanaged and ALL drivers are now lumped in to the same category, including this one with 42 years OTR, 4+ million accident free miles, 1.3 million miles here and never been late with a load. This was a QC message I received Saturday morning while sleeping in, in order to regroup from the steer tire blowout. Needless to say, this really got me the wrong way. I’m not going to air the dirty laundry about the phone conversation that took place after I read this, but let’s just say there’s 2 very important dates coming up, February when our yearly contribution to our 401K takes place, and April when I get my new vacation weeks. One of those 2 dates will be my sayonara. I’m a greedy SOB, I’ve earned them, I’ll make sure I collect them.
I knew the direction this company was going in, I accepted it as their business model, but I’ll be ###### if I’m going to be lumped into the same category as the rest of the drivers that can’t exit a fuel island without hitting something or tearing up stuff at one of our yards.
Two things are holding me back from following through, one is the planner that sent this is new, has no idea who was on the receiving end of this QC message, and 2, we have a big issue with drivers being late, not caring and not giving a poop.
My issue? I care, I do this job correctly, and take care of the customers freight I have back there. Say what you will, but one of our biggest customers that gives us a ton of loads every week, has a particular load that I’ve done quite a bit, in all types of weather, the issue? We have a no chain policy, except of course this particular load. Chained twice last winter and once the year before. I’m not mentioning that to start any discussion about chains, I do what I feel is necessary at that particular time. My point is this, not everyone runs out there in the winter, very few will chain, I get it, some of us do. If I am being lumped into this same category as everybody else, then it’s only fair I start acting like everyone else. I was so pissed this past weekend that I remember squat about this trip out here to Reno. My DNA won’t allow me to do my job any differently here as I have the last 9 years. But for Gods sake, the people looking into the computer everyday need to realize we aren’t all the same. Rant over. Hopefully when I get home next week for a week off, my pea brain will have calmed down.
Oh, in case anyone was wondering, I’m sitting in Sparks, 12 miles from my delivery, about 15 hours earlyLast edited: Sep 27, 2021
