Is it true that CARB/EPA okayed a software to bypass the DEF system but the Manufacturer of the truck has to do it ? A shop guy just mentioned this to me, that it was accepted. This is do to part shortages for any DEF system.

It doesn’t bypass the def system, it uses existing NOx sensors by bypasses the def quality sensor. Truck still runs like normal only your def gauge is on empty all the time. Now the sensors are starting to show up in stock again. I got a sensor yesterday instead of getting the software to bypass it.

My DEF sensor failed on 8-15-21 at 265k miles and I just picked it up today. They replaced the sensor. I was told by the dealer that they haven't authorized the reprograming yet. When they do I was told that once you are notified your sensor is available that you will have 90 days to get the truck in for repairs or the EPA will commence with the fines to the truck owner until it's fixed. EPA fines get pretty hefty I think.
