So I have a year OTR experience as a company driver for one of the big names out there. I am really interested in becoming an owner op and spike to a ton of people at truck stops and whatnot that are owner ops. Seems the majority say it's a good thing and there's money to be made out there. That being said, I am looking into leasing a truck from Ryder or perhaps a company that offers trucks for lease. My questions are mainly pertaining to a lease from Ryder. If I got a lease from them and have my own authority, (and yall probably gonna flame for this) but I'd be able to book my own loads on load boards and be able to use a broker? I guess my main concern is are there companies out there that won't book with you because it's a Ryder lease?

Ga, Tn, nc, and fl. Right now have some used trucks on Craigslist. Not the best of options but my buddy just got a 2011 kw. For 13k.
I've looked into Ryder in 2014 on top of every thing eles they wanted 7 cent a mile on all miles and 2 years as a o/o.

Why you doubt they'll lease me a truck? I meet the qualifications for a lease so I don't see why they wouldn't.

Those sound like good deals. Only reason I was considering a lease is to have that peace of mind with maintenance. Stuff gets expensive quick and if I'm just starting out I don't have a large enough bankroll to cover any unexpected repairs. At least with the lease they have a zero down time guarantee, if they can't fix it quick enough they'll give you a loaner u til your trucks repaired. All the repairs are covered under the warranty.

So here's a question. Do you have around 30k saved to cover expenses? If not. I'd strongly recommend not doing it. Plus if you lease on to a company. You can use their authority. Why pay for something. If you don't have to.
