That is a pretty epic construction zone. But I-35 will always be the all time champion.

I had 2 with big bald spots on a van trailer about 2 months ago. I noticed them when I picked the trailer. It was headed about 200 miles to the yard so I just let the mechanic know and boogied on a route to avoid the scale houses.

Low and behold IDOT had a jump scale set up in Franklin, ID... The main officer was a good guy though... He asked if I had noticed anything about my trailer tires. And I replied, Like the bald patches the size of Montana? He got a good chuckle from that. I explained that it was headed back to the yard about 1.5 hours away and that the had a whole new set waiting for it.

He then showed the rookie officers spoke some sage words and pointed to me, after which he walked up shook my hand and said to have a safe trip... But if any cables were showing they would have put me OOS. I smiled and said Thank you sir, have a good day... Then I jumped in the cab and started grabbing gears before he changed his mind.

I hammered a HUGE turkey in an almost identical situation... Was on I-80 Westbound in North Platte, NE. Happened so fast I wasnt even sure what I had hit at first, but a glance in my mirror and the tail feathers stuck to my front fender verified the species identity.

We just had an "incident" with a company driver and wildlife. It didn't end well for either. Immediately following said incident, a Safety message comes across the Fancy Thinkin' Box. Do Not, under any circumstances, swerve to avoid wildlife. Safety's new catch phrase...Grit and Grip. Which means, grit your teeth and simultaneously grip the steering wheel.

    There 'ya go. Solution solved.

Seen what I Know was a BIG mule deer atop Malad Summit on I-15 in ID. Must have been a big buck, because someone had very neatly removed the head. Someone that knew what they were doing too, clean cut meat & tendons and no saw cut vertebrae... They knew how to seperate the skull from the neck with only a knife, not many folks know how to do that. I've shocked more than a few people (hunters even) when I've showed them how.

Had an impact with a wild turkey in VA. Was back a way from the road, then decided to bow up and started to run then fly. Had the hood pete then. Never even let off the throttle. Hit the grill and got stuck under the headlight. Bent some chrome. For months I was “The Turkey Hunter”. Only lasted till the next animal strike, someone got a deer.

Probably common in construction zones these days.
A couple of near misses make those memorable. Last 3 years of I65 say, Cave City on to the B/Grass had some interesting chutes.
