I am from Long Island NY and passed my road test on 8 December 2020 on my first attempt. I have a K restriction and only can drive in NY but I wanted to drive OTR so this April I went to get the NY DOT exam. I am 58 years old and in perfect shape. No back issues or diabetes.

12 years ago I was prescribed the drug clonozepam and it shows up when the Dr. checks the online report. In NY they just type in your name and any prescription drug you are taking show up. The Dr. said that the 0.5 milligram 4x per day (2 mgs) was to high and would not pass me unless the Dr. that prescribed it wrote a signed statement that it has no effect on my driving. Because of the liability my Dr. would not do it.

Since April I have been weening myself off of the clonozepam and take just 1mg per day total. 0.5 in the morning and 0.5 at night before bed.

I have an appointment for a NY DOT exam on next month on 4 November. I hope cutting the dose in half works. I am going to a different Dr. this time then last time. Do you think I have a chance?

Get your physical in Jersey or another border state! Benzos are not good for drivers! Be careful hand!

What makes you think NJ Dr. will not look in the computer prescription website? Benzos in small amounts dont even show in urine at all but the Prescription check is what fails you.

You self lower dosing means nothing. Your doctor needs to lower it and right a letter. Otherwise your script is the same.

Yes the Dr. has lowered the prescription. 6 months ago it said on the script and bottle 0.5mg 4x per day and the count in the bottle was 120 pills.

Now the script says 0.5mg 2x per day and the count is 60 pills.

I hope the DOT Dr. passes me. That is a very low dose.

You are already in the system with the first Doctor. Doctor shopping for a DOT Physical is a thing of the past. Going to another Doctor will just make it look like you are trying to hide something.

No offense, but driving truck drives anxiety. Going otr is going to make you need to up them dosages again. You should rethink this

Im going for it. Not giving up. If I dont pass the DOT based on the 1mg per day I will then ween myself all the way off of them which could take another 6 months. There are plenty of other natural and non narcotic remedies for anxiety. I just want to get OTR ASAP so I am going to the appointment on 4 November.
