I would expect around $2.50 per mile plus the fuel surcharge. It really depends on the company. A load that requires you to return to your home terminal empty should pay much more to cover the dead head miles.

    BTO Transportation Thanks this.

2.50 per mile? Do you have any idea what it takes to run a hazmat tanker operation?

It would be really tough for a one man operation to run Hazmat/Tanker with his own numbers. You'll end up with the leftover runs that no big company wants to run. Better to find a good company to lease onto. There are so many loads that require different type trailers that the bigger companies have. Plus let them provide that Hazmat liability insurance.

    $2.50 a mile? LOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOL

I wouldn't touch hazmat for less than $5. The insurance alone, not to mention a driver, would be stupid expensive. Then you have all the downtime for cleaning the tank after every single load. I don't even run reefer for under $3 a mile.

I agree, I was thinking much higher than that.

    Really depends on the product.

Is it a simple rinse, steam and dry -or is caustic +/or solvent wash that runs three times higher?

Thick product with a heel disposal?

Few years back someone came up with a neutralizer for Acrylates and charged $300.00 a gal. for it; yeah we only used a quart but had to buy a tote full and marked it up...

Then the additional cost of maintaining a tank, inspections, thickness testing, etc.

    Way to many variables.
