seeing the posts about progressive, since we have progressive we called our insurance lady and asked the simple question. We asked if we were to hire a driver with no experience would they cover them under our policy and she said yes. So we could hire a driver with no experience and that would not be an issue. They said however in some states if you hire experienced drivers progressive will give discounts for experienced drivers.

Thanks! That is good to know that DOT doesn't hassle anyone with truck inspections. That's one less thing to worry about.

When I talked to progressive about insurance, experience didn't come up. Seemed more concerned with being a new authority than anything else.

2290, intrastate authority for 26 states on top of interstate, ifta, highway usage/weight tax, UCR, BOC3, clearinghouse, hours of service exemption registering, IRP, audits for IFTA and FMCSA, compliance left and right. You can easily forget who really owns the truck! You must do exactly what the government tells you to even if it changes from year to year. I would rather get 10 Covid shots if I can avoid the above:)

We had no problem, we had new authority and they signed us on no problem. Our monthly rate for progressive, since we live in Indiana is 1600 per month. I hear rates are higher in Florida and other places.

Payment of a new truck and payment of a new trailer is absolutely nothing. My last load after paying for fuel I made over $6000. Well that More than covers any payments on new equipment. Just remember a lot of the guys here speaking do not have their own authority and may speak of experiences of being leased on to a bad company and money being tight. There is a reason why many companies buy new equipment. If you expect to provide a service to your customers it’s hard to do with worn out equipment. My advice by the best equipment money can buy.- Settle for nothing less. equipment cost is almost nothing compared to operating expenses. I highly advise for someone to spend a few years learning the industry at an elite company before venturing off.

I can adjust my numbers, so what kind of miles can I expect? I'm looking at the miles of the used trucks out there averaging it out. I thought I was being conservative, my son in law who drives for a carrier averages about 650 miles a day and averages about 9 mpg all day long.
