Last time i hit a deer was 23 years ago with 99 dodge ram. Was the first time and the last time. I live in the sticks too. Deer crosss my path all the time. Its either that im lucky or I know what to look for by nature in the road ahead and proceed with caution

Between my Fiance & I we have hit 6 of them in the last year all with in 10 miles of home... and it's not like we don't watch for them... they are thick around here.. they do a unbelievable amount of crop damage too..there's nothing great about them..
Funny thing you get caught shooting 1 with out a license.. and the DNR fines the hell out of you because it's their Deer you shot.. but when their deer eats 5 acs of your crop or hits your vehicle..it's not their deer -
To me that brings back a lot of memories when I was 8 years old and my uncle would come back to El Paso for the Vietnam War so we could go visit him on our way to El Paso there were deer herds all over but my dad managed to find his way around them on our 1968 Ford Galaxy 2 door blue with a white hard top ... -
We know what & where to watch for too but it still happens around here.. it's not like we just go flying down the road not watching for them .. my Fiance hit 2 at once driving 30 mph 1 mile from the house and they totaled her car...
And it pisses me off that I felt like I had to by a 4500.00 ugly ### herd bumper to protect my truck from the worthless POS that serve no good purpose on this earthmjd4277, Final Drive, God prefers Diesels and 2 others Thank this. -
I'm a big deer hunter. Free range, public land.
I'd assume from that pic, your friend is in South Texas hog country. Pretty much the only strategy in South Texas is bait, and you can't bait effectively around hogsvand javelinaFinal Drive, God prefers Diesels and Last Call Thank this. -
Really it depends on the goal. If the goal is to put venison in the freezer that's fine. If the goal is to have fun stalking a deer then obviously it's a boring way to do it.
Nothing wrong with either approach as hunting is simply a hobby for the most part. -
Last Call Thanks this.

Never used a feeder much.......a spot light on the other hand....
If he just wants to fill a freezer I ain't got no issue with it, but it ain't hunting.
That's like going out into the woods getting in you 5000$ heated deer blind and playing on your phone till one walks up to the salt lick.OldeSkool, Muddydog79, Last Call and 1 other person Thank this. -
No different than how so called bears hunters bait…hanging rotting fish in a tree. God forbid they ever got off their fat pimply and actually hunted.
Final Drive Thanks this.
