Speaking of dumb things, did a super dumb thing today.

Was heading to Richmond down I-95. I knew there was a big traffic backup just ahead. And as I was slowing down, I saw an 18-wheeler hit the HOV lane.

Now, I know that I am not allowed in the HOV lane under normal circumstances. But I have driven down that HOV lane twice before when it had been opened to all traffic because of a road blockage.

But I hadn't really been paying attention to the HOV status signs, because normally they don't apply to me. So when I saw the other 18-wheeler cut in, I thought "Does this guy know something I don't? Are the lanes open to all traffic because of this traffic backup?" And I followed him in.

As it turns out, he didn't, and they weren't. And now I got a spiffy new ticket from the Virginia State Police for my troubles.

The super annoying thing was the two 18-wheelers in the HOV lane that passed me and the state trooper while he was writing out the ticket.

Fortunately, the trooper says that it's considered a non-moving violation and will not put points on my license or otherwise cause any agita to Abilene or their CSA scores. But I expect it to be at least a $400 fine.

Well I don't care what you call someone with 2 years experience. Noob, rookie, inexperienced, call people like me whatever you want. All I know is that $0.45 CPM is an absolute slap in the face for any driver with 2 or more years of experience in the year 2021.

And I don't say this because I have anything against the company (I only know about them because of this thread). If anything, I'de like to see Abilene AND all other trucking companies step up their games and pay a fair, respectable and livable wage that is congruent with how much experience a driver has.

And I'm sorry, but $0.45 CPM ain't it.

So, here I sit at the house. Got home late yet again. This now makes 6 out of the last 7 months that operations didn’t do their part. God only knows, I’ve done mine.

Was suppose to be home Monday night, coming back out on Friday. The reason why? I have a weeks vacation scheduled over Thanksgiving. Timing was a major player in this hometime because I need to get home on Friday the 19th to get ready to drive up to the NC mountains with my wife, and our kids and grandkids and enjoy 10 days in an AirBNB log home we rented.

So what happened? Got lied to for the third straight time from our brain trust in West Memphis. Delivered Monday in Memphis, was promised a Jacksonville load last Thursday, wound up with a Savannah load that I delivered Tuesday then picked up a loaded trailer at the dump of a yard we are renting that delivers next Monday night at 8pm in Tampa. Was told to take it home and deliver it after my forced extra days off. I was promised I’d be home on Friday the 19th. My response was, quit blowing smoke up my a.z.z. I’ve been lied to and shown you haven’t got me home as scheduled the last 6 months, and now I’m suppose to trust you to do it then? I’ll be home the 19th, with or without operations being involved.

I’ve had about all I can take from these people. Everything the last 6-9 months has turned to sheet. I’m going to write my last post with a year end report card a month early and not contribute anything else here about this company owned by Knight/Swift Holdings Corporation. And trust me, this is a Knight/Swift company, don’t let the green colored trucks fool you.

Here is my year end report card a month early.

    Operations….F
    The rest of the company……C

For those that might ask why am I still here, simple. I carry the health insurance for my wife and I. I turned 65 this past February. My wife turns 65 in July of ‘23. I qualify for Medicare and she doesn’t yet. Financially I can retire right now, but I still enjoy this career and still have it in me to work.

This company reminds me of a great book that was written in the 70’s by Sparky Lyle about the NY Yankees called “The Bronx Zoo”. The difference here is this should be called the “Abilene Zoo”

Like I’ve been told since I was a kid, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything. I’m now done with all this. I’ll just read the posts and go on with my life here for the next 2 years.

Worst week statistically here at Abilene.

Let me tell you, pulled up in the yard to take a shower, walked in and somebody blew crap, all over the back of the toilet, and onto the floor, and left it there.

    That's your fellow driver here.
