If you had to spend your own money on a new truck, what would you buy?

The truck won't be a pavement princess, it will be driven through everything, including deep mud, snow, construction sites, logging roads, and mountains, as well as the hwy.
Need a day cab, tandems, 13 or 18 speed, typically loaded to 46,500 kgs/103,000 lbs, rugged, reliable, 1100 kms fuel range under any condition, some ground clearance, and void of all aerodynamic skirting and low hanging front air dam, good heater/defroster, strong drivetrain/diffs.

What would your wallet open quickest for, International, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Star, KW?

If naming a brand, please include the model you would also choose, for example Peterbilt 567, or KW T880, Volvo VNX etc.

    Engine choice, DD16, X15, MP8, Paccar 13, or ?

Driver of 13 years, but my dad only had KW with Cat, and Cat doesn't build truck engines today. The truck I drive most is a 2005 T800, 18 speed, i have put 2.4 million kms on this truck alone, hauling fuel, equipment, logs, and aggregate.

Thanks for indulging me as I research what will be my first truck as an owner.

The one you have been driving would be exactly my choice, but that's probably not realistic for the future.

I'd probably go with an 880 specced just like yours, but with a Cummins.

Edit to add: The vocational set up for what you're doing.

I'm not sure what happens when one follows another on here, but it's fine by me!

I'd go with the T-800 if I was buying a new one. We run them in the same kind of conditions you described and they've held up well.
We still have a few old Petes but the T-800 is just a better truck as far as taking a beating and getting the work done.

T800 extended day cab with a Cummins x15. Second would probably be Western Star 4900 with a Cummins x15.

    MOBee and Pamela1990 Thank this.

Talking to a salesman @star, yes Cummins is an option. That said, he pushed the DD engines hard, while trying to talk me out of even considering an X15.

I hear bad about them all, but seems Paccar has the least fans of all.
