Shoulder pain and shifting, especially 5th and 10th gears.

    I've recently been in a 10 speed after almost 3 years away from a manual. I was worried about my knee since I do have a little sand in the left knee from time to time.
    No. It's the shoulder. Especially 5 & 10. The little bit of outward resistance combined with the down (or back...) but basically all of it sucks at this point.
    It's been almost a month. I've tried changing the seat position. The elbow position. I had a 1hr myofacial therapy session 1-1/2 weeks ago that I recovered from and have another appointment on Fri but that is REALLY not fun. But necessary. Pain starts as the knot I'm used to on the upper side of the shoulder blade. Then another one starts at the bottom of the shoulder blade toward the spine and one under the back of my armpit. That's the one that seems to cause the lightening bolts down the back of my arm. The pain in my forearm is apparently gripping the shifter too tight but the death grip only happens after I feel the upper arm loosing strength so I'm trying to be aware of that and it doesn't seem as bad this time.
    SO.... is this due to truck ergonomics? Or maybe from my old shoulder problems from over 10 years ago?
    Solutions?
    Suggestions?
    I'm really struggling here, any feedback welcome...

    Have you seen an ortho? This sounds like a rotator cuff tear. I had surgery in July, and shifting was a little painful as I recovered.

    My blessing that you should find and fix your problem quickly

    Depending on your age, it could be arthritis. I have similar issues, but arthritis runs in my family on my mother’s side.
    For me it helps some, to avoid sleeping on my right side. Arthritis is an inflammation of the cartilage of the joints, an anti-inflammatory may help, certain foods are natural anti-inflammatories.

    Used to be standard operating procedure that Shifter sticks would to be cut, extended, and bent all kinds of funky ways to make shifting more comfortable for personal preference.

    When is the last time you had a physical? A real physical exam not a DOT physical. If I were you I'd go talk to your GP and then he can refer you to a specialist if he thinks it's necessary. This might not be what you think it is.

    Yeah but now you're labeled a super trucker if your shifter is anything but factory.

    For no more effort that is required to move the stick I’d say you definitely have something going on that needs checked out by a specialist.

    I mean it could be something else it just seems odd that I can tarp etc no problem but 1 month of this truck and I want to go home and cry lol. I guess I should talk to my doctor. My annual checkup is almost due anyway

    Possible rotator cuff tendonitis.Thats what I had for years and did nothing about it until it got so bad I went to the doctor.He sent me to physiotherapy which pretty much cured it very quickly.Good luck with it man.

    What was your previous injury? Did it have the same effect on the same type of motion as shifting?

    I tore my rotator cuff back in high school in a basketball injury and to this day if I’m doing anything that requires me to have my left hand above my head for a long period it’s starts to get sore with a dull pain and it takes a couple days before it goes away.

    That IS puzzling.

    If it were me, I'd go for the ortho consult.

    When did ya go back to flatbed, Qbf?
