Intermodal trucks lined up by the thousands at the ports; East Coast and West Coast. Just sitting there; Longshoreman won't load them.

Well said, and I’d pull a flat and maybe even tarp it before I’d touch a can. Lol ;)

Those lines were already long before all these issues came up. It took me 6 hours to get into terminal 18 in seattle last time i did a can. Another 3 hours to get that can off my trailer. Ridiculous.

We tried cans out of the Port of Oakland. We hauled two and the only reason we hauled two was because we couldn't believe what happened the first time. Second day was just as bad. Way too much waiting time. Way too much attitude from the people working the Port. Definite communication problem with trying to ask other drivers questions about what line to get in etc.
When the driver brought the last empty back on the second day he called me and told me that he was looking at at least three hours of waiting time. I told him to drop it right there in the street and head toward home.. If you ever want to get the Port workers attention unhook their trailer and drive off. I got about five phone calls all at once and most of them threatened to never let our trucks back in there again.
I told them that was fine with me.

The whole world’s attention is on the ports, until the media stops writing about it. Remember BLM, Trump’s taxes and on and on.

Having to wait a while for something, teaches people patience, or to become more resourceful.
Maybe its a part you need. Can a local fabricator build it for you? Auto/truck wrecking yard?
Repair the part you have an option?

Port truck drivers do that voluntarily. They have other choices to keep their trucks moving, but choose to wait for hours at ports instead.

    True

and it’s just beyond my comprehension why the drivers took rate the port delays ,when there are so many other opportunities available . Almost all of which pay better .

I worked with “triple crown service “ when they were in business . And it was great . They hauled their “roadrailers “ on the rails and their operating area was 200 mile radius of their terminals . The were all new air ride trailers , not the old worn out garbage chassis that the ports and railroads use .

All owner operators , no company drivers , compensation was a combo of a daily availability fee and a milage fee and a per stop fee, and wait time fee after three hours . And since the were expanding , all the work you could handle. And they had no tractor requirements other than it would pass a DOT inspection.

Look up the roadrailers , was a great concept and seemed like the future of cargo transport , but somehow Norfolk southern managed to lose money on it .

then they got into rail containers , and that really sucked having to deal with the rail yards.

i have never been to a regular port ,
I pulled a lot of banana containers and a few cargo containers from the port in Biloxi Mississippi.

But that port was super small .
And the bananas paid $ 1.25 to the truck . In 1996…..

back then that was good money .

Triple Crown out of business? Didn't know that. Haven't seen anything about that company in years it seems.
I used to haul bananas in a reefer trailer out of Tampa, Florida to Chicago. That's an easy run.

Perhaps Bootijug should be reading that authors article and going from there.
