I was sitting at this new job the other day and was watching some of the other drivers come and go, and was kinda shocked to see how many guys do the 2 second pre/post trip..

How many of you guys drain your air tanks at the end of the day... check your pushrod stroke.. tighten your brakes up... check your tire pressure... check your fluids...

I'm not saying I do all that EVERY single day (on my truck) but I switch trailers regularly so I'm always pulling on the slacks and tightening them up, replacing lights and filling up tires... I've only been at this place a couple weeks, but ####... Where are all the real truckers at?

They retired, 20 years ago. And whoever's left will soon be replaced by a robot.

It’s amazing to see how many drivers never open their hood either doing a pre trip or post trip. Over the years I’ve caught several issues by doing a thorough pre/post trip.

I drive local within usually 20km of other warehouses, usually it's just in time freight. Load gets ready at 9:00PM and the delivery is at 9:30PM.

If I spent 15 minutes actually pretripping trailers that are not even from my company (power only) . I would be late for all the deliveries.
Usually just check tires, brakes, bogies, rims, lights and I'm out of there.

Running over 160KM I'll check more in-depth though. I usually check my tractor every day (fluids and other things).

Everyone at my company does good pre trips , At least the daycab guys because we loose our bonus if there’s a problem . my post trips on truck and trailers are close in detail to my pre trips .Again to cover my own ### . i don’t just go around hitting tires and half ### checking lights . All of our trailers have brake indicators which makes life easy

I was backing into that small area at the Tim Hortons at the Espanola turn off. Got the trains backed in. A reefer pulls in and tries for about 5 minutes, then gets out of his truck, walks over, knocks on my door and asks me if I would be able to back it in for him............... WHAT?

I got out and guided him and gave him some pointers. Once he was backed in he asked me about an air leak that was coming from his drives. The kid had no idea what a brake chamber or a slack adjuster even was... I'm not even kidding. How is this f'n possible? They need to start checking over these idiots who are rolling trucks, go find out who the person was that road tested them, and go after them. This is getting way out of hand.

You must be new, that shti's been goin' on for at least about 20 years. The schools are a joke, they only explain the basics, if any. And the examiners are worse, they know less. In BC you don't even need a CLD to examine for it. So we got schools that just money grab, and examiners that don't know any better. Meanwhile the "Trucking Association" is a sham fixed up by the corrupt goberment. It's all a big racket, my friend, welcome to crony capitalism.

Made the mistake of hiring a 'qualified' trained driver - let him go on his own to load ... let's just say had to tow loaded trailer out of ditch ... no one harmed thank god... NEVER AGAIN

Be thankful you didn’t get ticketed. Or towed. Or booted. Owners posted no truck parking anymore. Place is a crap hole anyways. I live there, and I won’t even go in there with my personal pickup cuz of how they operate.
